How to Stop Biting Your Nails...

Did you know:  There are approx. 600 million nail biters world wide!  Both adults and children bite their nails for various reasons.

Now I don't feel so bad.  Nail biting is a habit difficult to stop.

Nail biting can be a result of bordom, feeling nervous or suffering from stress / anxiety.

If you are sick of biting your nails, here are some tips:

- Use a bitter nail polish as discouragement
- Alternatively you can try and stop biting one nail at a time.  Tell yourself you are protecting ..... nail this week and refuse to bite it.

- Eat foods that are rich in calcium and magnesium

- Take a photo of your nails and stick it up in a prominent place to remind yourself.  Take a photo each week and add it.  Then you can be inspired by your progress or non-progress.  Make a poster of a whole lot of really terrible bitten finger nails and put it up next to your mirror or computer to remind you.  This will definately put you off.

- Don't start another bad habit to try and stop biting your nails.  Some people suggest chewing a toothpick or something else.  This is not a good idea.

- Try to find the real reason why you are biting your nails:  bored/nervous/hungry/thinking/fiddling and then find a way to treat the cause not only the symptom.  There is something you can use like a stress ball or worry beads to keep your hands occupied or drumming your fingers but dont let it become obsessive.
